Watch: Democrats Refuse to Cheer MLK Jr. On House Floor

House Democrats couldn’t bring themselves to applaud Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday.

As House Republicans failed to elect a new speaker after several votes, Texas Republican Chip Roy nominated Byron Donalds of Florida.

Roy began the nomination — which challenges Kevin McCarthy, the outgoing GOP minority leader, for the top position in the House — by highlighting Donalds’s race as Democrats nominate New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

“Now here we are, and for the first time in history there have been two black Americans placed into the nomination for speaker of the House,” Roy said ahead of the fourth vote. Read more…
